Message from the Director
I cordially welcome you to our website.
We are proud of the fact that Katoh School introduced English immersion education in Japan in 1992 and that we were the first English / Japanese dual language school in the country. Since that time, we have become a model of immersion and bilingual education in Japan and continue to lead in the field of dual language education. The merits of our program have been recognized by the Japanese Association of College English Teachers (JACET) and the Center for the Advancement and Study of International Education. We were also the first Japanese school to receive authorization for our Middle Years and Diploma Programmes from the highly prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization. Our secondary bilingual IB Programme emphasizes inquiry-based learning focused on developing critical thinking skills across multiple subject areas to develop global citizens of the future. From the beginning we have striven for excellence in all aspects of the program.
The vision of our program goes beyond our school walls. We believe we are making an important contribution to the quality of English education in Japan. Through research, seminars, symposiums on content-based foreign language education, and teacher training we are committed to remaining at the vanguard of dual language education in Japan.
One of our greatest resources is our dedicated, highly trained staff who are committed to excellence and to the success of the children under their charge. The quality of a program is directly related to the quality and effectiveness of the teaching staff, and we have been fortunate to have an outstanding group of educators involved in the program. We pride ourselves on being a dynamic, ever-growing institution endeavoring to give the gift of bilingualism to our students and to promote understanding of dual language education in Japan.
Thank you for your interest in our school. I hope you will consider joining our community, whether you are an interested family, teacher, or supporter.
